In What Ways Can Genetically Modified Food Harm the Body?

No Proof that Genetically Modified Food is Safe:
Surprisingly, there is no solid evidence suggesting that genetically modified food is safe for consumption by humans. Although some foods have been approved in safety checks, the damages to health are unpredictable as living organisms are so complex that genetic engineers cannot possibly predict all of the outcomes of the introduction of new genes. In fact, the science is just too new and the technique too imprecise for any guarantee to be made about human health regarding the issue.

May Form New Toxins, Diseases and Weaknesses:
Biotechnology companies often fail to inform consumers that mixing genes from multiple, unrelated species increases the chance of forming new toxins, diseases and weaknesses. Future generations of organisms could be completely wiped out as a result of these disadvantages. This issue is primarily overlooked because there has not been the opportunity to test for long-term impacts.

May Cause New Viruses within the Human Body:
The complex nature of transferring genetic material, especially between species barriers, may result in damage to the normal genes. Changing even one small section of any plant or animal DNA can have a detrimental effect on the genetic code, thus seriously altering the characteristics of the species. In some cases, this will result in the formation of new viruses within the human body itself, or the food that is consumed. Although this is only a theory, the risks are still substantial.

May Introduce New Allergens and Toxins into Food:
The alteration of traditional foods may introduce new allergens and toxins causing them to be unfit for consumption. Humans may form permanent disabilities or face death, if exposed to some of these allergens.
An example of this, was the modification of a bacteria in an attempt to produce large amounts of the food supplement, tryptophan. As a result of the toxic contaminant produced in genetically engineered soybeans, 37 people were killed and 1500 permanently disabled.

May Cause Super Viruses to Inhabit Genes from Genetically Modified Crops:
As a result of large plantations of crops, which have been genetically modified to resist certain viruses, new viruses may evolve. The original viruses may pick up genes from the genetically modified crops, thus acquiring additional resistance and spreading rapidly throughout human society. These virus-ineffected crops could then be consumed by humans and have a detrimental effect on their health.

There is No Going Back:
Once a mistake has been made during genetic modification, the resulting pollution is self-perpetuating. Put simply, this means that it has the power to renew or continue living for an indefinite period of time. In many cases, any mutations to genes can be inherited by all future generations of the species. This could ultimately mean that your grandchildren, and their children may face the threat of super viruses during their lifetime as a consequence of genetically modified food.
